Privacy Policy

1. What this covers

This explains what personal information Tasked collects, why, and who it's shared with. It's written to reflect what the app actually does, in plain language, consistent with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

2. Information we collect

When you sign up, we collect your name and email address (via Clerk, our authentication provider — including whatever your Google account shares if you sign in that way). Everything else is optional and only collected if you choose to add it: location, phone number, and a profile picture URL, all editable from Settings.

We also collect what you post or write on the platform — job listings, application messages, proposed rates, reviews, reports, and feedback submissions — and payment-related records for jobs you pay for or are paid for (amounts, fees, GST, and Stripe reference IDs). Your actual card details are never seen or stored by Tasked — Stripe handles that directly. If you set up payouts as a worker, Stripe collects identity and bank verification details directly from you as part of that process, not through Tasked.

3. How we use it

To run the marketplace: matching jobs and applicants, processing payments, sending the notification emails you've opted into (see the email preferences in Settings), enforcing our Terms (including reviewing reports and, where necessary, banning accounts), and meeting our own legal obligations — including collecting and remitting GST as described in the Terms.

4. Who we share it with

Your name, email, and phone number (if provided) are shared with the other party to a job only once that job is assigned — never with other applicants, and never before assignment. Reviews you leave are visible to other users of the platform.

We use a small number of service providers to run Tasked, each of which processes the data needed to do their part:

  • Clerk — authentication and account login
  • Stripe — payment processing and worker payouts
  • Resend — delivering notification emails
  • Neon — hosting the database
  • Vercel — hosting the website and app

We don't sell your information to anyone.

5. Overseas storage

The providers above may store or process data outside New Zealand as part of how they operate. By using Tasked, you agree to this overseas processing, which is necessary for us to provide the service at all.

6. Cookies and local storage

Clerk sets a cookie to keep you signed in. Your light/dark theme choice is stored only in your own browser (not sent to us or anyone else). We use Vercel Analytics for aggregated, privacy-friendly usage stats — it's cookie-free and doesn't track you individually across sites.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is active, and for a period afterward where needed for legal, tax, or dispute reasons (for example, payment records related to GST). You can ask us to delete your account data at any time — see "Contact us" below.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to keep your information secure, but no online service can guarantee perfect security.

9. Access and correction

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you and to request it be corrected. Most of it you can already view and edit yourself in Settings; for anything else, contact us as below.

10. Age

Tasked isn't intended for use by anyone under 18 — posting, applying for, and getting paid for jobs involves entering contracts and Stripe's own identity checks, which require being an adult.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Tasked changes. We'll update the date this was last revised when we do.
